Panerai Pam 386 Luminor Marina Composite

Nov 13, 2010,08:48 AM

Just saw this and wanted to get your thoughs on this new model. Looks like Panerai is now using the Composite material on the Luminor case. I think Anthony was the first to predict that Panerai would be doing this.

Mods, please delete if I'm breaking some rules.

Some pics that I saw on the net and description.

Presenting the Pam 386.

With automatic movement Panerai P.9000, the box Panerai Luminor 1950 in Composite ® and the strict observance of the functional and aesthetic codes that make each one unique watch Panerai, the Luminor Marina Automatic Composite 1950 3 Days - 44 mm, to be officially presented sihha in 2011, is a classic example of the Panerai tradition of innovation and quality.

The box Luminor 1950 and the bridge protecting the crown are made of composite Panerai ®, a synthetic ceramic used in high watchmaking first by Officine Panerai, created by an electrochemical process involving the transformation of aluminum. The Composite Panerai ® is much lighter than ceramic, but at the same time is much harder and stronger than steel and, moreover, is dull and looks very different.

The big brown dial, unadorned, has sandwich construction consisting of two superimposed layers containing the Super-LumiNova ® forming the numerals and hour markers fluorescent. He has the classic Panerai style, reflected by its thickness and high readability even in the dark. The display is protected by a sapphire crystal with smoked antirrefletivo treatment.

The automatic movement P.9000, which can be seen through the sapphire crystal back, is 13 ¾ lines in diameter and 7.9 mm thick, and was entirely designed and built in the manufacture Officine Panerai in Neuchâtel. This gauge has a date function, small seconds at 9 o'clock and a power reserve of three days, guaranteed for two mainspring barrels connected in series with an oscillating weight that loads the springs in both directions.

The Luminor Marina Automatic Composite 1950 3 Days - 44 mm is water resistant to 30 atm (300 meters) and comes with an aged brown leather strap with a clasp of the same color composite. Identified by the reference PAM00386, it is part of the Contemporary collection.

This brown colored composite material absolutely fits in Panerai watches perfectly.. If one think I would like to change on this watch is the date... If it doesn't have a date function this could be what I'm looking for next year... Best, Sam

no worries Sam

i'm sure they'll have different Variants in the Future. Cheers

I like the new 386!

 By: patrick_y : November 13th, 2010-23:16
Looks great! Hmmm, I am noticing that this watch doesn't have the push button strap bar release as other models do. Instead, it's got screwed spring bars. Interesting detail, I guess the Composite case may not be easy to work with to put the strap bar rel...

Oh we have the same wish!

 By: BluNotte : November 14th, 2010-05:20
Minus date, and being a hand-wound of course! Cheers Stephen

Your wish have been granted

PAM 375 www.panerai.com More or less, 386 in 47 mm without date and hand wound. BTW - loove the 386, and as it is reasonably priced, I joined the waiting´list at my AD, long list though ;-(

this composite "thing"....

 By: sirjo : November 13th, 2010-23:36
it's going to go places, the watch is very nice and I'm sure they'll make others with the 'stuff' (or so I hope).... Cheers - Sergio

Very very sexy!

This is likely to be on my 2011 wishlist!

damn you panerai

 By: hitman : November 14th, 2010-09:04
this news is making me love and hate the watch at once. I really like the look of this piece and would pick one up on release, but i have been earmarking my savings for a 233. now my plans are muddled as I cannot get both which is making me hate this news...

Exactly

If the PAM339 hasn't come out yet, the PAM386 won't come to the public until 2 more years. Gives you time to save ahead for the PAM386 Cheers, Anthony

OMG...so beautiful!

 By: swjoseph : November 14th, 2010-05:44
I wish it is a regular production along side with other cal 9000 models!

Thanks for the info. Guess Panerai leaked out the PAM386

 By: AnthonyTsai : November 14th, 2010-06:46
News has already spread prolifically all over the entire web including on Paneristi, so there's no point zapping this thread. I told you guys Panerai will make a Luminor version of the PAM339!!! However I am surprised Panerai is releasing this Luminor com...

I Wish

 By: aldossari_faisal : November 14th, 2010-12:32
we will see a BASE LUMINOR with same case and dial colors, what do you think Anthony ?!... see im a simple man . the Pam 386 is another charm . one thing more, i was thinking today that panerai should lift their foot off the paddle a bit ... too many watc...

In due time probably

 By: AnthonyTsai : November 14th, 2010-21:17
but I would guess we would see a higher complication model first (or several models first) before we see a Luminor brown composite base. - AT

i wish soon and

 By: aldossari_faisal : November 15th, 2010-01:41
hope the case wont come out like the SLOB's case aesthetics wise i mean. Faisal

i second your Second thought Faisal

too many New Models in a short time.. and the Delay to roll them out on the Market Kills the Excitement.! Cheers Tony

Anthony, first let me say that I hope you are right, and...

 By: ticktocktimesup : November 14th, 2010-12:43
.... that the 339s all end up with collectors or other Panerai enthousiasts rather than flippers. But something tells me the 339 will still be a hot item and still a watch that flippers would like to make a bet on. Here's why: Firstly because 386s wont hi...

I remember reading

 By: kglaw : November 15th, 2010-02:25
your old post Anthony and you did predict that Panerai will be using the Composite on the Luminor case. I was thinking that it would be the regular Luminor 44mm case and not the 1950s 44m Luminor case. This is a good looking piece and would be a great wat...

Totally agree with your analysis, Anthony.

 By: amanico : November 15th, 2010-08:01
Which is an excellent thing for all the TRUE 339 Lovers who will not be affected by the release of another case using this material. The 386 is much different from the 339. A Luminor, Auto, Date. On the other side, a Radiomir, Manual movement 8 Days Power...

absolutely amazing

 By: gcTIME : November 14th, 2010-07:37
now if its price movement can move in a similar manner as the 292 (non torpedo versions, ie, street price about the same as MSRP) then i think a lot of people are gonna be very happy...

I like it everthing about it :-) [nt]

But i have an issue with the date window on any panerai... sad reality but this is me. Thanks for posting . Faisal

A Winner!

 By: S-PAM : November 14th, 2010-17:47
This watch is definitely a winner in my book! At least it gives more people a chance to acquire a watch with that material! thanks for sharing buddy!

but no doom sapphire :(

 By: swjoseph : November 14th, 2010-18:37
i think that's the fate with all P.9000 movments. Sadly these movments will never see the distorted world as their P.2002-5 siblings who are blessed with the doom sapphire!

Is this had the dome crystal

 By: kglaw : November 15th, 2010-02:27
then I think it will be more good looking!

no Doubt a Great Looking watch all around

 By: Tony A.H : November 15th, 2010-05:09
i don't know what to think of it yet ( if i'd buy it or not ).. i have a feeling that PANERAI will come out with some Composite Variants in the near Future. so for some who like the non-Date , the Luminor Case, or a 47mm 1950 Case ? all are Possible. that...

Don't know what to think of this material. I agaree with anthony

 By: torromoto : November 15th, 2010-07:51
that it's strange for poanerai to release a luminor version this fast as it won't help the sale of the 339. Also I am not convinced about the material. It's just too light IMO. I have read risti's comparing witha SWATCH watch..Don't know..I love a hefty w...

very cool

 By: brett_nyc : November 15th, 2010-11:45
I think the 339 looks great and this Luminor application of the composite material looks great too. I'm in agreement with those that would have preferred a non-date manual wind, but in terms of the "alternate case material" product lineup, this fits in a ...

This will be my next PAM

 By: spencer : November 15th, 2010-14:55
Well after I get my 292 in about a month, and assuming the 305 bug doens't bite me too hard

P9000

 By: SYPAM : November 16th, 2010-01:18
I like the look, I like the movement P9000 is a great one, I have it with my 305 and can't take it off my wrist.... I'm so reserving it from now, called my Panerai retailer already.

wow! this is awesome! doing without the date making it a historic model will even better .

 By: a.ler : November 16th, 2010-09:46
this. not vested in the pam 339 nor in the queue, but i think the pam 339 is a different beast as it is in the historic line. value-wise, that's another topic. btw, any info on the rrp ? thanks for the update.

piece of art

 By: limcungwei : September 26th, 2011-21:06
A very beautiful piece of art. Great post!

If the 339 had been the only one to get this composite case ...

 By: amanico : September 26th, 2011-23:55
It would have been initeresting... now that we see it with the 386, we ca wonder what Pam will receive it, in a not too distant future. It starts to be a bit trendy. I wonder how it would look like without the date, certainly more appealing than with the ...

No date or different material

 By: aldossari_faisal : September 27th, 2011-03:58
for the case such as bronze... in fact i was hoping and looking forward for a composite luminor case BUT didnt see it coming with a date window... Best Faisal

I hope Panerai will keep the Bronzo for the Sub, and will not extend it to the Luminor.

 By: amanico : September 27th, 2011-04:15
I'm not a big fan of the Bronzo, but I find the idea interesting... If not repeated on other watches. An idea may be interesting if unique... If not, it is just easy money. My 2 cents. Best, Nicolas.

a deeper point of view my friend

 By: aldossari_faisal : September 27th, 2011-14:23
considering what panerai is and the roots of it.... i find your point of view of a wiser nature than mine... Thanks All the Best . Faisal
