My introduction post: AP in a $20 U.S. Gold coin

Nov 08, 2014,10:26 AM

This is an unusual $20 U.S. coin watch. Usually one finds these with the coin hollowed out and small 18K gold case housing the movement inserted inside.
The case flips away in order to set the time or to wind the movement.
This watch has the movement encased directly in the coin. This is Audemars Piguet with movement cal. 2003
It was fun to take it apart and see it "undressed" smile
Here detailed pics. for your viewing pleasure.

Wonderful watch. So much craftmanship in it! I wonder how difficult/easy is it to wind it? Thanks for sharing this beauty!! S

Welcome to PuristSPro! A unique entrance for sure.

If you would like to private message me the movement number and case number, I will try and gain some official information from AP on this special piece.

Thanks for the offer.

I looked at the pics. I have on file and could not see the movement number clearly. All I see on the inside of the case is 101.

The movement number appears to be 70148

If that is true, the piece is a 2003 calibre watch and was sold in 1958! Many thanks to Raphaƫl and Michael from Audemars Piguet for this detailed information!

I found this exact case

In my search on the Internet for this reference I found a Cartier in a very similar if not exact case but no others like it.
