New 'Breitling for Bentley' GT Dark Sapphire Edition

 By: MTF : September 20th, 2017-03:39
19th September 2017 Despite the cutbacks for aviation activities at Breitling, they still made a joint announcement with Bentley Motors about a new watch – the Bentley GT Dark Sapphire Edition to "celebrate the Grand Touring spirit" and launch of all-new ...

Plastic. Rubber. 48mm. $15K+ (minimum, probably). Erm… I don’t think so.

 By: anonymous09 : September 20th, 2017-04:39
Why am I left with the impression that this his been shoe-horned in, rather than a natural fit for a car costing £150K+? I’ve never understood the brand tie-in, and this just makes it look like Bentley haven’t got a clue who their demographic is.

very technical and interesting watch, by the way Hublot makes also carbon watches and so does Panerai but none complains about their quality

I think Breitling has tested long enough breitlight before introducing it on the market, plus it sports a high end manufacture movement that few manufactures can rival with Breitling except Hublot, Tag with the 02, Rolex, Chopard, Omega, Glashütte Origina...

Good question

PJS Thanks for your thoughts. I buy Breitlings for family and friends but not for myself....until the current Mrs MTF re-gifted a SuperOcean back to me Somebody is buying these 'Breitling for Bentley' watches and they only need to shift 500 pieces. The as...

If you look in the past early 70's breitling made a series of watches called the pizza which was boasting a very large diameter it was either powered by a venus a 178 or cal 11

 By: georgeszaslavsky : September 20th, 2017-14:20
Ok I will illustrate my facts with concrete examples with pics found on the net First example the cosmonaute chronomatic cal 11 Second example the cosmonaute cal 178 handwound with 24 hour display Third example the cosmonaute cal 178 with GMT function (ve...

Do you know the size of these three Breitling?

46-47mm back in 1970 [nt]

I accept a reason behind oversized watches if legibility is enhanced ...

 By: Marcus Hanke : September 21st, 2017-04:09
... especially of the calculator bezels. In my experience (and I like to wear large watches) 46mm is the utmost limit of a watch that can comfortably worn on a men's wrist. Even then, the crown can be an issue and should be on the left side of the case (i...

for pilots wearing a very thick anti g suit in a small cockpit wearing a big sized watch gives an instant glance at the dial. One of the best buds of my uncle who was a F105F

 By: georgeszaslavsky : September 21st, 2017-15:35
Thunderchief pilot during Nam wore a breitling "pizza" model ref 819 as his everyday watch and it is still today his everyday watch after 38 years. The breitling collectors, pilots and users know very well why Breitling made cases this large. It is kinda ...

I fully understand your arguments about the vintage models and I’m absolutely agree with you. A big size could be required at that time because the reasons for that were obvious and real

 By: Alkiro1 : September 21st, 2017-23:33
But today, that makes no sense for me. 48mm for what? When you drive your Bentley you don’t wear a suit and you don’t need important information for your safety coming from your watch. I don’t deny the link with the past about big sizes. But for which rea...

Balancing the discussion

 By: MTF : September 22nd, 2017-01:42
Alkiro, I don't like huge watches either but as a moderator, I have to interject. Aside from logistics and functional reasons for watch sizes, the size of watches have gone up and down through history as expressions of both technology and fashion. Initial...

No problem at all dear Melvyn

We just share our point of views and I’m always honest when I give mine even if it’s only mine of course. Best wishes Alkiro

Interesting release...

I miss my 2014 CGT and plan on purchasing a new one. I like the changes I see, just want to see it in person before I am all in.

waiting for the speed variant

My last one was a Speed.

 By: JerryW : September 21st, 2017-09:50
I will definitely wait for the Speed version. I prefer to not but the first of a new model, would rather wait 6 months or a years to work out the early production kinks.

“innovative, authentic new luxury materials”

 By: cazalea : September 20th, 2017-22:32
“Designed, engineered and handcrafted in Britain from authentic luxury materials” Is it just me, or why are my suspicions raised by the double quotation that the materials used for the car (not the Watch) are authentic, new & luxurious? What do Bentley th...

I think it comes from the French language that dominates the luxury scene

 By: MTF : September 21st, 2017-02:40
The word "authentic" is used in French as an adjective indicating "really good" rather than "genuine". I found this is a trend also from the jewellery and watch copywriters in recent press releases. The sexy words for every luxury product launch are "auth...
