this regulation alters the length of balance spring from the balance spring stud-longer slows -shorter speeds up and measured by rate in seconds per day
the adjusting of beat is making the watch ticking and tocking equally and measured in milliseconds of error- adjusting is getting balances impulse pin equally centred with the banking pins at balance at rest
which would give zero error and a nice even ticking and tocking.
to get a great time keeping watch the beat and the rate must be set together.
