Which one is the most overrated model?

In your personal opinion, which is/are the most overrated models? For instance the 26K and 28L. Limited editions, both, coveted to a certain extent by many and the question in my mind remains....why? Cheers - Sergio

I find it hard to comment on this

Because often times the overrated models are those that doesnt even fit my criteria. I guess with Panerai there are many, but well, isn't the entire brand over-rated in some ways due to the fact that people rush over these watches that houses ETA movement...

well written Stephen...

Collectors make certain Models overrated

 By: Tony A.H : December 8th, 2010-13:53
i know it's Crazy and doesn't make a lot of Sense when it comes to pay X 1000s for a Pre-V Panerai (let alone the Vintage that Cost the same as a Brand New PORSCHE Carrera 4S.! it's us that Drive the Price way HIGH. it also has a lot to do with Supply & D...

100% agree Tony . [nt]

With Panerai, it's not just about the parts of the watch

 By: AnthonyTsai : December 9th, 2010-21:07
and the finishing. There are other intangibles which attribute to a model's value. And these intangibles do not apply to other brands like Lange. It's difficult to explain, but these intangibles are why there are many "overrated" Panerai's and why the par...

Agreed

I must disagree with most of the replies in this thread

 By: Asimut : December 9th, 2010-03:36
where you are trying to apply logic to the passion of collecting. We all know that our passion for horology, history, rarity, beauty etc. is completely insane and a $250 G-shock can outperform all of the above mentioned watches. Why pay so much for a 5070...

Agreed, totally, Asi.

Passion makes it all, here. Over rated is a subjective thing, indeed. Over rated compared to what? To other over rated watches? Best, Nicolas. PS: If there is any chance to get an authentic 6154, I trade my 5070 for it.

aaaaahhhh you crazy Frenchman

 By: Bruno.M1 : December 9th, 2010-10:21
;-))) A 5070 for a Panerai ??? They should have used something like this for the 414's back instead of the postcard LOLOLOL...

Why not?

 By: amanico : December 9th, 2010-10:50
A straught trade wouldn't be that stupid... A Rolex Movement for a Lemania one... Best, my friend. Nicolas.

Nico, you amaze me as

a human being. To live out our passion is not as simple as doing what we please. That's just animal instinct. We have to be true to ourselves and have the courage to stand firm while others stare with disapproval. Also be open at the same time so that we ...

Passion vs. Trendiness

 By: joshua71 : December 10th, 2010-11:20
One way to look at it is whether the high prices and popularity of a particular watch is based upon the watch having a timeless appeal vs. a sudden increase in popularity due to a watch being the current fashion. I agree that it isn't a matter of whether ...

and finally......

I'm reading something pertinent. Little I realized, when I posted this thread first, that I was going to upset the Gods of Panerai. The uneasiness with which this topic has been approaced, is really bizarre. The over-rating, I was referring to has nothing...

Is my Patek Philippe ref. 5980 S/S overrated? Is my PAM203?

 By: Haagen : December 18th, 2010-03:09
My two most expensive pieces, in monetary lingo. I tend not to think that way though. I am way too much of a passionated Timegeek to lay bitter in the dark, thinking if I got 'cheated' and if the watches I bought are 'overprized' and 'overrated'. I dreame...

It's always difficult to draw distinct lines on subjective matters. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart once said about pornography, "I know it when I see it." I think the same approach could be brought to this discussion. Upon further thought, I can't s...
