Date wheel question

Mar 15, 2014,10:44 AM

Speaking of nuances to this reference:

In terms of the date wheel I've seen both red/black alternating numbers and then others with all black. Pls correct me of I'm wrong but I understand the early production to have the alternating date numbers and later production 48xxxx to have all black?  Is this accurate?

I am trying to compile all the 6542 I meet, to share them with you. I systematically cross the quartal, year and serial number, for our data base. Here, a II 1958 SN 381 xxx, with a superb dial, and, cherry on the cake, the white second hand. For your eye...

Another great Rolex 6542

Firstly a lovely 6542! I too was doing research on the 6542 lately ;) It is still one of my goals for this year or next (depending on the fate of finding a nice example). Yes the white seconds hand. A must on early 6542 watches according to my research (t...

The one on VRF I walked away from. Something didn't seem right so my instinct told me to let it go. I will find one sooner or later. As the saying goes, 'good things come to those willing to wait'. Best Edmond

So difficult to escape from the magic of a 6542 my friend!...

Wow. The 6542 is among my favorite watches of all time. The Bakelite bezel in your example is nearly flawless. The reason I love this reference is the practical story of ots inception. The materials are so fragile that good examples are difficult to find ...

And if you add the fact that they were not massivley produced, yes, a nice specimen...

In good shape with its dial and bakelite bezel is pretty tough to find. The 6542 is, for me, one of the most sensual and charmful Vintage Rolex. As for your question about recent auctions, I cannot answer, since there were some crazy results on Vintage Da...
