Why the Mare Nostrum is called ...Mare Nostrum

Sep 06, 2009,03:06 AM

Asi made a great review on this watch, or should I say..Family, as there were several Mare...

He explained that the Romans used to call the Mediterranean Sea " Mare Nostrum " ..." Our Sea ".

So, here, I won't remake the Story behind the name, but just give you a pictorial evidence that the Mare Nostrum has obviously some Mediterranean roots.

smile

When you see how it works with a Roman Theater ( the one in Trieste ), you understand its roots are here!

The Mediterranean Sea is its Empire:

The Deep Blue of its dial goes very well with the color of the Sea.

As a Captain Watch, it loves to take some distance from the situations, and nothing can beat an Italian Roof on this purpose!

In a few words rather than in a thousand, it is so deliciously italian!

I think you'd know by now I have a soft spot for the Mare Nostrums. There's something sublime about having the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop for the Mare Nostrum 301/A. One of the shortest illustrations, but concurrently 'powerful'. I relate to your pas...

You have obviously more than a SOFT spot, Mr Gastby!

If I remember well, you have the Mare Pair: Pam 6 and 5218-301/A??? I had the idea to take pics with the appropriate background for a long time, in my head, to make it even more sublime, if it is possible. The Mare is a lovely and misunderstood watch, one...

it is precisely so

that the MN being misunderstood and underrated that draws my attention even more. Besides. 42mm is a great size! I've always love a blue theme in watches, and the Mares just fit the bill. Best to you, mon ami : )

We are on the same line, for the same reasons, obviously

The Mare is certainly a watch that counts in a Panerai collection, and even if you're not a Panerai Addict. It's a strong, nice looking and very special watch, indeed. And particularly this one, which made a World Tour and belonged to very dear friends of...

Proto Mare from 1943 ( Pic taken at the Panerai Museum, by Asi, if I'm not wrong ): Then, you had in 1993 my Mare : ( 497 watches + 10 Protos which are looking exactly the same, at the exception of the engraved number which begins by P ) Then, in 1996, th...

I appreciate the photos! All are very attractive watches! I can't decide if I like the black or blue dialed versions from Vendome better! Thanks again! Daos

In the flesh, the white is a very serious outsider, Daos.
