Ceramic watches with inner steel case?
Jun 19, 2014,05:34 AM
Dear Paneristi,
discussing the (IMHO imponderable) risks of buying a watch with a ceramic case in the Omega forum (subject were my thoughts on purchasing the Omega Speedmaster Darkside of the Moon) I have got some new and - at least to me - amazing information.
Art informed me, that "one of the reasons ceramic case repair is so expensive is that they generally have an inner steel case, which can only be repaired in a facility with the necessary technical capability. The DSOM's case, though, is entirely ceramic, so the usual labor-driven costs of repair might not be in play."
I must confess I haven't realized that so far!
Does there exist any "official" statement from Panerai on this subject? Do you have further information about that topic?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts and kind regards,
Thomas

I've always thought it was just 100% ceramic with no inner substrate. Because this is how I make my ceramic shaving sets for TwinLuxe. And Kong's recent report of "The Face of Time Exhibition" in Singapore reconfirms what I've always thought. See below, w...

to "cover" a stainess steel case with..ceramic? I've never heard it. I'm sure that Panerai would mention the case..composition..in the watch description and it would definetly disclose the materials utilized. I also believe that the hefty costs of replaci...

Dear Anthony and Sergio, warm thanks for your explanations. Yesterday I was unlucky enough to crash my PAM against a granite table. In panic I examined the watch in detail and - thank God - didn't find the smallest scratch. I wonder what would have happen...
