Owners of 190/197: Question on Winding

Mar 11, 2015,03:54 AM

Hi guys

picked up my new pride and joy and am loving the gold hands and simplicity of the dial. The movement is buttery smooth like the legends say and it is whisper quiet. Just put on an abp waxy honey gator.

Question on winding... does it have a clutch like the 2002 movement to prevent overwinding?

I do not feel extra resistance when winding near 8 days...

you can wind it up for a week and it still goes on and on.....an on :-) At least that's what my 197 does :-) Ciao

ok thanks, it sounds like you can not overwind...

... I donĀ“t feel any resitance when the little hand is reaching the 8 days marking. I just stop winding there. Somewhere I read that this beautifully finished and fine JLC movement was designed as a 10 days reserve, but it was due to the Panerai "eight da...

No, the explanation is more technical, and less romantic.

Yes, you read it well, the JLC movement could go till 10 days, but JLC reduced it to 8 days ( 9 good days, by the way ) because they noticed that the amplitude was good till 8 days, and much less good after. Un abrazo, Amigo. Nicolas

What is your favorite strap for 190?

 By: Darron : March 11th, 2015-09:20
as I don't want to change straps too often trying to find right mix of formal and casual. I really like this ABP waxed honey gator. what about you guys?

Congrats on your new purchase!

The PAM190 is a classic Radiomir for many here. I like the PAM190 on brown gator straps instead of calf straps. Gives it a more elegant touch IMO. Cheers, Anthony

Though straps changing is part of the Panerai "sport"...

... and enjoyment for most die hard Paneristi, I personally do not play too much with them. My 190 came with a set of original (OEM) black alligator straps, which gave a very elegant and formal image to the watch. Lately, I changed these straps for a set ...

congrats on the 190!

but I do have to say..when I wind..I can feel increased resistance (slightly) at full PR many Panerais have come and gone..this one I really can't seem to let go...

That's normal for your mvmnt, that being said

I would stop when your PR shows fully wound @ the 8 charge. BTW Beautiful piece,as for straps I say the more the merrier but I'm a strap w***e.Depends on the look your trying to achieve, they look best on Ali's & Gator's IMO but a good Ammo for fun &am...

Winds like butter

And you can barely hear the watch tick. What else can one desire. All sounds good to me. Bill

Is not only buttery smooth; but also very fast... It seems like it winds to 8 days in about 1/3 Time when compared to 2002. The 2002 is typically around 9-9.5 days to be fair

For me the Panerai Pam 190 is very special.

It happens to be the only Panerai in my collection that I did not change the original strap. All Factory and loving it. Bill
