Are all the 47mm Luminor correct from an historical point of view?

We recently had a discussion about the 127, this Luminor Marina in 47mm...Basically there are only 3 47mm Luminor Marina:The 127: The 217: The movement of these 2 Panerai Watches is exactly the same, an ETA, which don't have the same decoration, but this is strictly the same... And the special Pam 203: Special because this watch has an interesting movement, the Angelus 8 Days Credit pic: Asi ). All the 3 watches are related to the Hist...

Radiomir 210: simple pleasures!

I discovered Panerai perhaps ten years ago. Not just in books but through a friend who was working on the new brand under the sunlights.   When there is history there are books !   That was not a time for Radiomir lovers. It was only a story about Luminor. Sylvester Stallone was still successful, the year 2000 was still the future.   Here it is: panerai.watchprosite.com   ...

PuristSPro interviews Angelo Bonati, CEO of Panerai

PuristSPro Interviews Angelo Bonati by Anthony Tsai © April 2008      Angelo Bonati joined Panerai as the CEO in 1997 and has lead and transformed Panerai into a huge success of which many other CEOs are probably envious of.  Leading the charge and establishing itself as the leader of the large watch trend, Panerai continues to defy those who believe Panerai watches are just a “fad”.   This is the first time PuristSPro has interviewed Mr. Bonati, and...

292 In Da House . . .

After a very long wait, I have finally received a 292.  I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to several different people who made my acquisition possible, and without whom I would still be waiting.  You know who you are and I am eternally grateful. Panerai has experienced production delays with respect to the 292 (they can only produce 80 292s per month).  US ADs have yet to receive any 292s.  US ADs should begin receiving 292s later this month, but they will be coming in VERY slowly ...

Why is Jules Verne so special? A strapaholic's moment of clarity...

To mark the 100th anniversary Jules Verne’s passing, Panerai released the Jules Verne Sealand (Ref: PAM000216) in 2005.  What captivated me most was not the watch itself but the strap.       Photo taken from Panerai website   So why is this strap so special? Well, simply because it was the first OEM strap released by Panerai, or any other watch manufacture for that matter, to feature nubuck alligator hide.  It was surprising to see the term "nubuck" coupled ...

*** News Flash: Attention Panerai owners who own Tritium watches PLEASE READ! ***

Panerai today has implemented an official policy to begin replacing any non-current production PAM's with tritium dials/hands with superluminova when your PAM's are sent in for servicing at the Panerai Service Center, only if the tritium is found to be flaking or chipping off.  The reason Panerai is doing this is because there is no more tritium stock available. If you request that Panerai not touch your tritium hands/dial when your watch is in for service, Panerai will not service your wa...

A quick review of the PAM36, Marina Militare

The Pam 36 is one of the legend Vendome watches, with some few others like the 40, the 21, the Pre A 1,2,4,9, and the Mare 6,7 and 8.This watch has an interesting story. When Panerai Firenze was sold th Vendome, in March 1997, the Cartier Vendome group recieved some stuff from OPF, and with the stuff, some projects, like the watches which belonged to the Project Slytech as the Black Seal Slytech...So, Panerai Vendome had the idea to launch a watch which was conceived in the end of OPF, a titanium watch. The 1...

Mare Nostrum revisited

Like every year before the SIHH in Geneva we ask ourselves, is this the year of the Mare? Surly, if Panerai do eventually announce the remake of the Mare Nostrum, more attention will be drawn to this model. This is one of those watches that pictures do them little justice. One just has to strap it to the wrist to appreciate its beauty and the chronograph movement is one of the more reliable I have ever witnessed. The historic roots are of course, with the Prototype made in the early 1940's. This watch wa...

1997 - 2007 exhibition in Hong Kong: a casual chat on the Panerai P.2002 in-house movement

Just attended the 1997 - 2007 exhibition and it was a wonderful exhibition, to say the least.   Got to spend some time w/ a few experts from Firenze and we had a very nice discussion on some background information and insights on the in house movement:  -Was OP XIV used as a bench mark when developing the Calibre 2002? No, the OP XIV was not taken as a bench mark. The Calibre P.2002 was born with the purpose to integrate some useful complications in the future: the design of the movement h...

5 Panerai PAV straps: PAV 90, 91, 93, 98, and 99

Strapaholics, please raise your hands... Okay, got to admit that I go kinda gaga over straps.  Luck for me, there are heaps of strap makers there who can satisfy my strapaholic binges.  But for me, the worst type of strapholism is my craving for anything Pre-V. The scarcity of these prices and the demand for anything Pre-V have lead to the prices for these straps are reaching ludicrous levels.  More recently, there have been the emergence of Pre-V "prototype straps" and "phantom...
