here's what Imran said about it
So the most controversial watch of 2013, not the bronzo, but indeed the Radiomir 1940 47mm with date! The 514 is a watch of twists a supreme example of contradiction. Historic, yet so far from the original its DNA is based from. Far from the base we were expecting. But I wonder if we are the consumer for this piece? Maybe it is perfect for sports star? They would appreciate the date perhaps, but then surely they don’t want a wind up watch? I don’t know, it a watch which messes with the mind. Maybe last year’s California was enough of a
success to just this radical piece. For me I predict a short shelf life, watch this space I guess.
Me again: yeah it figures I'd like a Panerai that's got a predicted 'short shelf life'. Jeeeeeez .
I noticed it was referred to as 'base'. Does this mean that it will be made in large quantities and generally 'easy' to get?
Apologies for complete ignorance, but hey! That's what you experts are for. This message has been edited by Mostel on 2013-03-16 22:03:28

This is my first 'I want this' Panerai post ever! PAM 514 SIHH 2013 Can you help me to know if this is one of those crazy 'you'll never get one' pieces? Or is it generally/probably gettable? (and I don't mean through a boutique at list. I'm way too jaded ...

Based on my knowledge of other brands... my guess is this is a 'boring' piece in the eyes of serious collectors. Still, I like the design, because I don't know what Panerai 'laws' it violates, etc etc. Appreciate the reply.
Thought so

as I said, I know zero about 'em.
While the PAM 514 is not a watch for the Panerai purist

I find it rather appealing for an everyday piece! The sapphire crystal, second hand and date make it a extremely practical piece, while still having some tiny bits of Panerai DNA.
Mine, was a direct answer to a precise question.

At the same time though, there are several models that are rather "handsome" whilst non conforming to strict, ultra orthodox Panerai tenets. Personally, I like pieces like the 312, 320, 351 and even the 424. Would you ever find one of these in my watch bo...
I like this PAM514 too

I'd prefer of the date window weren't there as well but nevertheless, I believe this PAM514 will be a popular model. Cheers, Anthony
