Live pics of the PAM 338

Thanks to Chronopassion, I had the opportunity to see a prototype of the PAM 338.

If I understand you well, this 338 is a long awaited watch due to its very attractive specifications:

- a case diameter of 42mm which reinforces its elegancy
- a titanium case
- golden hands (which is not the case for the 337)
- the use of an exclusive caliber the P.999/1 (we wil come back to this topic later in the post).

So I was very happy to discover it !

The watch is, without any doubt very beautiful. The 42mm case works very well, not too large, not too small: perfect due to the style of the watch. The Radiomir becomes a very multipurpose watch, almost perfect with a suit or in a more relaxed context.

Let's talk about the P.999/1 now. My first disappointment came from the lack of the swan's neck regulator used in the P.999. It is more an aesthetical disappointment than a technical one...

My second disappointment is about the caliber in itself. Don't get me wrong: the caliber is a nice caliber and a very reliable one. But how can I tell you that it is reliable if it's new? The trouble is that, even if it is presented as an in-house caliber, I have a big doubt about its roots: it is so similar to the 838P from Piaget. Moreover it has the same size (12 lines), the same frequency (3hz), the same number of jewels (19). It is not a problem in a quality point of view: a handwind Piaget caliber is a great caliber. But I would have prefered a more transparent communication from Panerai. Or maybe I'm wrong ? In that case, sorry for my words.

Here is the 838P:

Wearing this watch is a true pleasure: I appreciate its balance and the beauty of the dial.

This PAM338 is without any doubt one of the most attractive current Panerai. Panerai managed to design an elegant case without losing the particular style of the brand. A must-see for any fan of the brand.
