Not to mention

That these are much more expensive than the recently released Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage Pulsograph with the Minerva Cal 13-21.

Which is the better watch? My head says the Montblanc as the movement fits better the 41mm case and I prefer the caseback presentation.
But my heart says the Panerai purely because they are gorgeous.

Panerai SIHH 2014: PAM 518 / 519 / 520: The Epitome of Panerai Chronographs?

 By: amanico : May 5th, 2014-00:01
When I first saw the new Radiomir 1940 Chronographs ( Ref 518: Platinum / Ref 519: Rose Gold / Ref 520: White Gold ) I immediately wondered if it could be seen as the dign heir of the holy monster Mare Nostrum, the " Madre " of all the Mares... PAM 518: P...

It's a tough question

 By: tudorctin : May 5th, 2014-02:06
It depends how you perceive the brand. If you consider Panerai as a tool watch why on earth would you spend such amount of money even if there is a Minerva movement inside? Why not buying the original? If you are open-minded there is a chance although in ...

I think you covered most of the plausible answers, Constantin. ;)

It will all depend on the level of affection and love for the brand. This Chronograph, in these 3 different metals, is a summary of Panerai styles through years, and houses a superb movement. Will it be enough to pay it at the retail? Most certainly yes, ...

Great write up Nicolas!

Thank you! I've been waiting to hear your thoughts regarding these new Panerai At first I reacted strongly against it, as I had too much expectation on Panerai, re-issuing Mare Nostrum in a more wearable size 45/47, and the fact that they mixed these hist...

... I prefer the rose gold and then the white gold at a short distance, but don'l like the platinum one, maybe if the dial had a cream color i'd go for it. All this is nice but certainly not at that price point !! you can buy a Lange chrono for that also ...

Love the pt version

Thank you for the write up. Movement, dial, proportions, case - it has it all. I find this piece perhaps the most captivating offer from 2014. The only thing I don't like is the price, especially considering the alternatives in the same range. I'm sure it...

I still haven't seen the new SIHH 2014 collection in person yet, so I'm dying to see them. I really hope Panerai releases a stainless steel version of the PAM518, 519, or 520 with a black dial and polished silver hands. That would be a killer combo IMO. C...

 By: amanico : May 7th, 2014-14:18
That reminds me the good old times, when we had these kind of discussions. Many Paneristis didn't and still don't like the Mare. I never understood why, by the way. Maybe because it doesn't have the specific case of rhe Luminor / Radiomir? Best, Nicolas

I don't know about other people, but I just never liked the look of the Mare

 By: AnthonyTsai : May 7th, 2014-14:22
And I think many others didn't. That's why it never really became a popular model for the general public. - AT

The epitome of a Panerai chronograph? How about the 147

 By: chezlaskin : May 6th, 2014-19:46
My vote for the epitome of chronographs from Panerai is the 147 - a 35 watch limited edition in 2002 using vintage Venus rattrapante movements completely refashioned with the highest grade of finish by Panerai. I am lucky to own one. And, to answer someon...

I am not a big Panerai guy. I have never owned one. I have tried on two, a Luminor and a Radomir. I have admired certain features, especially the sandwich dials. But in general they are big watches and that is not me But with the launch of this WG black d...

With time passing, the WG is my favourite, then the Pt, then the RG.

But the WG / Black dial is a winning combo for me too. Let me know, if you get one, and please let's try to have a photo session, then. ;) Best, Joe. Nicolas

Panerai 147 movement pic - as requested

 By: chezlaskin : May 8th, 2014-18:38
This is a pic of the movement, having just gotten back from Panerai in Switzerland for a full restoration - which it badly needed. Not sure who the previous owner was, but he really left it in bad shape. I was able to acquire it at a very good price, and ...
