Not exactly a great feeling to sell a watch...

I didn't really need the money when I let go of some of the watches.
I've sold several over the years.
My first nice watch, an Aqua Terra when the co-axial was all the rave back in 2003. Those were the days. I thought the 41mm was too big for me and decided to part with it. I sold it through an agent and felt that the 10% commission was too much although it was really fair for all intents and purposes. I guess I just hate that feeling that I could've made more on it. It's really not a nice feeling because it somehow points to certain aspect of greed? Or maybe it's just an obsessive-compulsive thing that you weren't able to maximize the process. Now, I know this watch is not hard to repurchase. But I like the idea of serependity and will on occasion look for a 38mm version on a store window.
My first JLC, a GT Reverso, sold to a friend at a friendly price because he was oh so persistent. Add to that the fact that the watch was hardly worn. But then that was really a bad sell in retrospect. There's always that special time in the year that would call for a Reverso that an Explorer II will not just do (duh, right). It was a long time that I had that bad feeling and got "reversed" eventually 2 years ago when I bought a Duo upon the advice of a friend. He told me to quash that bad feeling once and for all, and to get a Duo to double to strength of erasing that bad sell from memory. And to justify the price, he said and I went along with it that I was really getting two for the price of one. Hehehe. Friends are really amazing people.
And there was a bunch of Seikos. Vintage ones. I let go en masse for one lot price. They were just there in various stages of defect. I thought they were better off converted to paper so I had my friend sell it for me. That was a good sale. I helped my friend who needed the money and I got a few bucks off something that I wasn't really using.
It's better to actually give than to sell. I gave an orange Seiko monster to my brother because I already had the orange Samurai. He's not a watch guy but liked the watch and it's a good feeling to see it on his wrist. He's my brother, yes? Another Seiko I plan to give to my other brother just because he doesn't wear a watch!
Good post, Cazalea!
