. . . ostrich leather you're referring to, Amery.   Black Connie is fitted with a dark brown ostrich shin strap . . .

[my '57 Omega Constellation]

. . . which has irregular small scales in some sections, and very large rectangular/oval scales . . .

[MattS JLC on green ostrich shin strap]

. . . in others.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to ostrich leather with bumps, which are the points at which feathers used to be attached.  Your observation coincides with mine: it's hard to remember any posted here, although I'm sure at least a few have been in the past.

Remarkably, I recall seeing a late '60s Cadillac in my Uncle's upholstery shop that came with black ostrich leather on the seating surfaces (the rest was cow leather).  That must've been an extremely costly option at the time.

Cordially,

Art

JLC in particular seems to like these straps, and I had two of their honey ostrich straps on my Reverso Duo SS over the years. As you say, they wear like iron! Best, Gary

My purpose was merely to inject something else into a discussion upon wearable and endurable strap materials. So why not the ostrich, almost threatened with extinction because of some exorbitant ladies, fin de siecle, buying up magnificent plumes (feather...
